Many of you have let me know that some of my image pairings & arrangements pop up in other venues such as Facebook Swipe groups (esp. the great COMICS SWIPES Facebook group). Well, I'm flattered the posts are popular and that people enjoy PANELOCITY's swipes and "inspired bys", regardless of where they are presented. After all, the Internet is meant for sharing, right?

Fantastic Four #148 (Pt 36) Thor, Hercules, Ben and Sandman

Fantastic Four 148 Frightful Four
1974: Fantastic Four #148  Rich Buckler
Journey Into Mystery Annual 1 Thor Hercules
1965: Journey Into Mystery Annual #1  Jack Kirby

The Thor-Hercules image is from the Kirby JiM Annual #1 cover, below. And it could be that the smaller-sized JiM Annual #1 house ad (seen in FF #42 and #43, for example) was used as the foundation for the FF #148 Thing-Sandman image.

Bonus! Gil Kane's Kirbyesque Cap, a few issues later in ToS #88
Tales of Suspense 88 If Bucky Lives
Tales of Suspense #88 Gil Kane

Like many other Marvel pencilers, Gil Kane was asked to approximate Kirby's dynamic storytelling. Check out Kane's 1960s Captain America Suspense run and you'll see plenty of Kirby references--another Cap example here!

Fantastic Four #148 (Pt 29) Reed's Ray Gun Redux

In the FF#148 sequence, Reed claims he's "just rigged" the new tracing device he's holding --but it sure looks awfully similar to the Power Amplifier he used back in #40. Either Reed revamped the first device or else he really likes that design for his doohickeys!
