Many of you have let me know that some of my image pairings & arrangements pop up in other venues such as Facebook Swipe groups (esp. the great COMICS SWIPES Facebook group). Well, I'm flattered the posts are popular and that people enjoy PANELOCITY's swipes and "inspired bys", regardless of where they are presented. After all, the Internet is meant for sharing, right?

Giant-Size Super-Stars #1 (Pt 3) Bruce Banner and Ben Grimm

The Hulk vs.Thing slugfest "The Mind of the Monster" features a downcast yet surprisingly buff Bruce Banner.  Hmmm, was Bruce lifting weights in his spare time...

...or was he based on the downcast and very buff Ben Grimm from Fantastic Four #78? ;)

Is there another possible protoype for Dr. Banner as he appears in a different panel from Giant-Size Super-Stars? Who could it be? Stay tuned for our next installment and see!

Fantastic Four #153 (Pt 16) Mahkizmo and Loki

Okay, this is a generic pose--but I love Tom Hiddleston (who doesn't?), so let's raise a glass to Loki!

How about it, folks--can anyone out there ID the source for Mahkizmo in the Fantastic Four #153 panel?  As for Ben, Reed and Johnny, check this out.

Fantastic Four #153 (Pt 14) Medusa, Mahkizmo and the Inhumans

Here are some panels in Fantastic Four #153 that are based on 1966's FF #47. You remember #47--it was part of the fabled Lee-Kirby Silver Age arc that introduced Medusa's relatives, the incomparable Inhumans!

These next two may look familiar--I posted them some years ago at the Avengers Assemble forum.  But you can never have too much Medusa!

Fantastic Four #153 (Pt 7) Divide and Conquer aka Fantastic Four Annual 5!

Some years ago at the Avengers Assemble forum I mentioned that the first FF #153 panel shown here--the group striding forth--was clearly inspired by a similar panel from 1967's Fantastic Four Annual #5. This led me to the other panels.

Sequential panels from pages 11 and 12 in 1974's Fantastic Four #153:
Fantastic Four 153-WorldsInCollision

Fantastic Four 153-WorldsInCollision

Sequential panels from pages 20 and 21 in 1967's Fantastic Four Annual #5:
Fantastic Four Annual 5-DivideandConquer
Fantastic Four Annual 5-KingSizeSpecial
Fantastic Four Annual #5 (1967) Jack Kirby
Plus:  a panel from page 22.
Fantastic Four Annual 5-DivideandConquer
Fantastic Four Annual #5 (1967) Kirby

Breaking it down:

Fantastic Four Annual #5 (1967) Jack Kirby
And see the big yellow arrow in the Kirby panel? It reads:
"Special Note: We suggest you study this illustration carefully, and perhaps even file it away in some safe repository--for it is unlikely you will soon see another such awesome aggregation of raw power as now confronts your ever-lovin' eyes--!"

Looks like someone took Stan's suggestion to heart. ;)

Fantastic Four #153 (Pt 5) Mahkizmo, Thundra, Rama-Tut--But Where's the Mutated Blood-Slug?!

You've probably seen a few of these panels before, as this sequence from 1974's FF #153 has frequently been cited as a textbook example of Kirby-inspired art.

The source is Fantastic Four #19: the last two panels on page 11...

...followed by these two panels at the top of the next page.

Hmmm, could Mahkizmo be the missing link in that Doom/Rama-Tut/Kang/Immortus chain? ;)
