Many of you have let me know that some of my image pairings & arrangements pop up in other venues such as Facebook Swipe groups (esp. the great COMICS SWIPES Facebook group). Well, I'm flattered the posts are popular and that people enjoy PANELOCITY's swipes and "inspired bys", regardless of where they are presented. After all, the Internet is meant for sharing, right?

Fantastic Four #168 (Pt 4) Ben and Johnny Storm Out--Plus Profiles

More Fantastic Four #44 and #168

1965: Fantastic Four #44 - Jack Kirby                              1976: Fantastic Four #168 - Rich Buckler

Let's face it--it's pretty clear that Buckler had #44 nearby. Here's an example of how #44 helped suggest character position/placement within a panel, with Johnny and Ben:

  1. I always come back to asking why he did this so often, when other projects have shown that he didn't need to.

    1. Hi Silver! From what I have seen this was Buckler's way of working at least on the superhero comics; check out his earlier Marvel work, Avengers #101, 102, etc., these were a couple of years prior to his FF run and there's a lot based on Adams and Buscema's work. As for the FF specifically, I have read online that he was encouraged to swipe Kirby; but then again I've also read where he has stated it was his "own idea." So who knows. At any rate, it's apparent Marvel wanted to make sure the finished FF product had that classic 1960s Kirby-Sinnott look...so basically here Buckler was providing Kirby layouts for Sinnott.
